The conference invites original papers, review papers, technical reports and case studies on WWW in particular the emerging role of so-called WWW-based Communities. Domain: It is increasingly important for our culture to bring people together and to promote dynamics in professional organizations, mutual understanding, learning and harmony. Creating "virtual communities" is one major way to do this. The Web Based Communities 2005 conference aims at sharing and aggregating scientifically proven methods on how to organize and moderate WWW-based communities. These communities do not limit participants to particular locations - the international and multicultural dimension is a most challenging one. Good WWW communities undergo a continuous evolution and adapt to the changing world. The nature of these communities can be corporate, scientific, social or educational. Pragmatic questions which need to be addressed include: What software tools are the most adequate and how to use them? How to promote your community so that new members can find it? How to protect the members' privacy? How to moderate discussions and how to provide information that people can use? How to create and maintain a sense of trust and commitment among the members? In addition, sociology, education, communication and philosophy issues are addressed as the main disciplines reflected in building WWW-based communities, although critical theories on societies and post-modernism are also relevant starting points. New and imminent technologies will be discussed. Objectives: The Web Based Communities 2005 Conference aims at bringing together new vital understanding of WWW communities and what new initiatives mean. Each new perspective is potentially a catalyst for finding new architectures. National and regional-oriented communities may soon be relegated to a subordinate position compared to interest-oriented communities. Multiculturalism, critical thinking, expressing aesthetic aspects of our identity, and finding sparring partners for sharpening our ideologies, are all processes that need the new communication infrastructures. The targeted audience is scientists and members and moderators of WWW communities who feel responsible for optimizing its quality and effect. * Format of the Conference The conference will comprise invited talks and oral presentations. The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a book with ISBN and also in the IADIS Digital Library (available at http://www.iadis.net/dl). The better papers will be candidate for the "International Journal of Web Based Communities" (IJWBC); ISSN: 1477 - 8394 [4 issues per year] * Types of submissions Full and Short Papers, Posters/Demonstrations, Tutorials, Panels and Doctoral Consortium. All submissions are subject to a blind refereeing process. * Subject indications (but not limited to) The history, architecture and future of virtual communities 1. From mobility to connectivity 2. Education gradually shifts from the transfer to the development of expertise. The need is there to develop skills and understanding at the spot, just when it is needed. This conference will provide you with the newest state of the art on portable devices, like the mobile telephone, the PDA and the many combinations of the two, including functionalities like full WWW-access (via Bluetooth, WLAN or GPRS), photo/video cameras, GPS and a navigational system, playing and recording MP3 music and MPEG4 movies, and not to forget a large amount of games and simulations. Indeed we can say that it is just one of the many steps from the computer on the desk, to finally see it disappear in our watch, our clothes and under the skin. One highlight of this conference will be how quickly we expect the predicted portability will emerge and what we hope to include in our scenarios for work, school and leisure time. The other is the question what scenarios we envisage to pick its potential benefits for learning purposes. No need to argue if and how it will help us to learn on the job; connectivity saves us mobility (time, costs and risks). More intriguing is the question how institutionalized learning will benefit from mobile learning devices. Yes, already WWW-based learning systems have proven its value for flexibility, collaborative and experiential effects. We may expect our mobile to combine communication, work and leisure time better, so that its learning moments happen when we are ready for it. For those reasons we cordially invite you to come and join our conference in the luster atmosphere of Malta where already several highly dynamic mobile applications between learning, tourism and local tourist services are undertaken. * Format of the Conference The conference will comprise invited talks and oral presentations. The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a book. The best paper authors will be invited to publish extended versions of their papers in selected Journals. * Types of Submissions Full and Short Papers, Posters/Demonstrations, Tutorials, Panels and Doctoral Consortium. Please check the conference website below: ICEIS website: http://www.iceis.org Venue: Deauville Beach Resort, Miami Beach (USA) 24-28 May, 2005. ICEIS has become a major point of contact between research scientists, engineers and practitioners in the area of business applications of information systems. This year, five simultaneous tracks are held, covering different aspects related to enterprise computing, including: "Databases and Information Systems Integration", "Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems", "Information Systems Analysis and Specification", "Software Agents and Internet Computing" and "Human-Computer Interaction". All tracks focus on the benefits of Information Systems and Technology for industry and services, thus making a bridge between the Academia and the Enterprise worlds. ICEIS 2005 received 459 paper submissions from 41 countries in all continents. 89 papers will be published and presented as full papers, i.e. completed work (8 pages in the proceedings / 30' oral presentations), 110 papers as work-in-progress short presentations and another 90 as poster presentation. These numbers, leading to a "full-paper" acceptance ratio below 20%, and a total acceptance ratio below 65%, show the intention of preserving a high quality forum. Additionally, as usual in the ICEIS conference series, a number of invited talks, including keynote lectures and technical tutorials are also held. These talks are presented by internationally recognized specialists in different areas and definitely contribute to increase the overall quality of the Conference and to provide a deeper understanding of Enterprise Information Systems. _________________________________________________________________________________ MAIN TOPIC AREAS / CONFERENCE TRACKS 1. A fundamental stimulus to the investigations of Hybrid Intelligent Systems (HIS) is the awareness that combined approaches will be necessary if the remaining tough problems in artificial intelligence are to be solved. Neural computing, machine learning, fuzzy logic, evolutionary algorithms, agent-based methods, among others, have been established and shown their strength and drawbacks. Recently, hybrid intelligent systems are getting popular due to their capabilities in handling several real world complexities involving imprecision, uncertainty and vagueness. HIS'05 builds on the success of previous HIS events: HIS'04 was held in Kitakyushu, Japan, HIS'03 in Melbourne, Australia, HIS'02 in Santiago, Chile, and HIS'01, the first event, in Adelaide, Australia. All events attracted participants from over 30 countries. HIS'05 is, therefore, the fifth International Conference that brings together researchers, developers, practitioners, and users of soft computing, computational intelligence, multi-agents, and several other intelligent computing techniques. The objectives of this international meeting are to increase the awareness of the research community of the broad spectrum of hybrid techniques, to bring together AI researchers from around the world to present their cutting-edge results, to discuss the current trends in HIS research, to develop a collective vision of future opportunities, to establish international collaborative opportunities, and as a result to advance the state of the art of the field. HIS'05 invites authors to submit original and unpublished work that demonstrates current research in hybrid intelligent systems research and their applications in science, technology, business and commerce. Submitted papers have to be original, containing new and original results. The assessment criteria will be heavily weighted towards originality, potential impact and relevance to HIS'05 themes. Paradigms such as just-in-time learning, constructivist approaches, student-cantered learning and collaborative approaches have emerged, and are being supported by technological advancements such as simulations, virtual reality and multi-agents systems to name a few. This merger has created both opportunities and areas of serious concerns. This conference aims to cover both technological as well as pedagogical issues related to these developments. Main tracks have been identified (see below). However innovative contributions that do not fit into these areas will also be considered as long as they are directly related to the overall theme of the conference. * Format of the Conference The conference will comprise of invited talks, oral presentations for discussion-oriented papers, and poster sessions for work-in-progress. The proceedings of the conference will be published in the form of a book and CD-ROM. Authors of the best published papers in the CELDA 2005 proceedings will be invited to publish extended versions of their papers in the Computers in Human Behavior Journal (Guest edited by Kinshuk, Demetrios G Sampson and J. Michael Spector). * Types of submissions Full and Short Papers, Posters and Tutorials. All submissions will go through a double- blind refereeing process with at least two international experts. * Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following areas: - Acquisition of expertise - Assessing progress of learning in complex domains - Assessment of exploratory learning approaches - Assessment of exploratory technologies - Cognition in education - Collaborative learning - Educational psychology - Exploratory technologies (such as simulations, VR, i-TV and so on) - Just-in-time and Learning-on-Demand - Learner Communities and Peer-Support - Learning Communities & Web Service Technologies - Pedagogical Issues Related with Learning Objects - Learning Paradigms in Academia - Learning Paradigms in Corporate Sector - Life-long Learning - Student-Centered Learning - Technology and mental models - Technology, learning and expertise - Virtual University * Important Dates: Submission Deadline Extended: 29 July 2005 Notification to Authors: 12 September 2005 Final Camera-Ready Submission and Early Registration: Until 17 October 2005 Late Registration: After 17 October 2005 Conference: Porto, Portugal , 14-16 December 2005 * Conference Location The conference will be held in Porto, Portugal . * Secretariat IADIS Secretariat - IADIS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE CELDA 2005 Rua Sao Sebastiao da Pedreira, 100, 3 1050-209 Lisbon, Portugal E-mail: celda2005@iadis.org Web site: http://www.iadis.org/celda2005 * Program Committee Conference Chair Pedro Isaias, Universidade Aberta (Portuguese Open University), Portugal Program Co-Chairs Kinshuk, Massey University, New Zealand Demetrios G Sampson, University of Piraeus, Greece Committee Members (not complete): Alessandro Cucchiarelli, Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy Alfred Bork, University of California, Irvine, USA Ali Turker, Siemens, Turkey Angelique Dimitrakopoulou, University of the Aegean, Greece Baltasar Fernández-Manjón, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain Carlos Oliveira, European Commission, Luxembourg Charoula Angeli, University of Cyprus, Cyprus Claudia Roda, American University of Paris, France Dale Shaffer, Lander University, USA Dominique Verpoorten, University of Liege, Belgium Elizabeth C. The current experimental systems have many of the characteristics of biological computers and are beginning to be built to perform a variety of tasks that are difficult or impossible to do with conventional computers. In a nutshell, which becomes quite apparent in light of the current research pursuits, the area is heterogeneous as being dwelled on such technologies as neurocomputing, fuzzy systems, probabilistic reasoning, artificial life, evolutionary algorithms, multi-agent systems etc. IJCIR is a peer reviewed international journal with a key objective to provide the academic and industrial community a medium for presenting original cutting edge research related to computational intelligence and its applications. IJCIR invites authors to submit their original and unpublished work that communicates current research on computational intelligence both the theoretical and methodological aspects, as well as various applications in real world problems from science, technology, business or commerce. Review management is primarily under the direction of an associate editor, who will solicit reviews for each submission. The associate editor will ordinarily make a recommendation after receiving three independent reviews. To avoid delays in processing your paper, please follow these guidelines. Submission of Manuscripts All correspondence concerning submissions is between the author and the Editor in Chief . To submit your paper for consideration, visit the web submission system found at http://ijcir.ujn.edu.cn/author/submit.php Submitted papers must be in English and should not have been published elsewhere or being currently under consideration by any other journal. The final decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief upon recommendation of an Associate Editor and / or an Editorial Board Member. Copyright Forms Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has been neither published nor submitted for publication, in whole or in part, either in a serial, professional journal or as a part in a book which is formally published and made available to the public. For the mutual benefit and protection of authors and publishers it is necessary that authors provide formal written consent to publish and transfer of copyright copyright form before the publication of the article. Proofs Proofs will be sent to the corresponding author and should be returned with one week of receipt. Corrections should be restricted to typesetting errors; any other corrections may be charged to the authors. Authors are advised to check their proofs very carefully before return, since the inclusion of late corrections cannot be acceptable. Corrected proofs are to be returned to the publishers. Handling/Publication Charges Authors of accepted papers are requested to arrange handling/publication charges of their papers at the rate of US$10 per printed page, which will be invoiced, through the author, to the author's company, institute, or agency. Fifty reprints of a paper are provided to the authors free of charge. Additional sets of reprints may be ordered at the time of proof correction. Handling/page charges are mandatory and omitted ONLY when it will be highly recommended by the Editor-in-Chief.Frequency of Publication Frequency of Publication The first issue of Journal (IJCIR) is expected to be launched from the month of September 2005 with two issues this year. A fundamental stimulus to the investigations of hybrid optimization techniques is the awareness that combined approaches will be necessary to solve some of the real world problems. The main scope of this special session is to develop novel hybrid architectures or to exploit the existing ones. Topics of interest include but not limited to: • Neural networks assisted evolutionary computation • Fuzzy system assisted evolutionary computation • Rough sets assisted evolutionary computation • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with particle swarm optimization • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with other global optimization techniques (simulated annealing, Tabu search, GRASP etc.) • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with bacterial foraging • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with molecular computing (DNA computing and membrane computing) • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with quantum computing • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with optical computing • Hybridization of evolutionary algorithms with other bionics This session is also oriented towards real world applications where a direct approach might fail. Topics of interest include but not limited to: • Multiobjective optimization applications • Financial modeling • Intrusion detection and cryptography • NP hard problems • Bioinformatics • Data mining • Knowledge management • Natural language processing • Image processing • Nonlinear network problems • Planning and scheduling • Brain-computer interface technologies Deadlines: Paper Submission: January 31, 2006 Notification of Acceptance: March 15, 2006 Camera-ready Submission: April 15, 2006 ---- The ICEIMT hypermail/searchable archives may be found at URL: http://tools.org/EI/ICEIMT/ From jcordeiro@iceis.org Thu Dec 1 17:28:03 CST 2005 >From jcordeiro@iceis.org Thu Dec 1 17:28:00 2005 Received: from a.mx.internetmailserver.net (c.mx.internetmailserver.net [64.79.160.23]) by dns.obgyn.net (8.11.6/8.11.6/dsb-1.1) with SMTP id jB1NRvX19164 for ; Thu, 1 Dec 2005 17:27:58 -0600 Received: (qmail 26894 invoked from network); 1 Dec 2005 23:27:54 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO mail01.internetmailserver.net) (192.168.100.21) by a.mx.internetmailserver.net with SMTP; 1 Dec 2005 23:27:54 -0000 Received: (qmail 7906 invoked by uid 89); 1 Dec 2005 23:27:53 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO iceis73d0fdf80) (194.38.150.52) by mail01.internetmailserver.net with SMTP; 1 Dec 2005 23:27:53 -0000 Message-ID: <01cb01c5f6ce$da69a660$0201a8c0@iceis73d0fdf80> Reply-To: "Jose Cordeiro" From: "Jose Cordeiro" To: Subject: Deadline Extension - CFP - WEBIST 2006 - 2nd Int'l Conf. on Web Information Systems and Technologies Date: Thu, 1 Dec 2005 23:27:51 -0000 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2527 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2527 ************************************************************* DEADLINE EXTENSION Full Paper Submission: 19th December 2005 WEBIST 2006 2nd International Conference on Web Information Systems and Technologies http://www.webist.org Setubal, Portugal, 11-13 April 2006 TOPIC AREAS INTERNET TECHNOLOGY WEB INTERFACES AND APPLICATIONS SOCIETY, e-COMMUNITIES and e-BUSINESS e-LEARNING hosted by College of Business Administration of Setubal (ESCE) organized by the Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Control and Communication (INSTICC) sponsored by the Polytechnic Institute of Setubal (IPS) in cooperation with OMG Important dates: Full Paper Submission: 19th December 2005 Author Notification: 31st January 2006 Final Camera-Ready Submission and Registration: 14th February 2006 Conference: 11-13 April 2006 Keynote Speakers: Mark M.
